COMMUNITY GROUPS

Those attending Zion come from all over Accomack County, and because we are located on HYW 13 it is easy to get to our location from any place in the county. We believe people should serve and share life in the communities where they live so we have developed geographically based community groups: North of the church, in the Parksley area, in the Accomac area and in the area south of Accomac. The purpose of our community groups is to provide a deeper connection among the members and for the groups to be actively serving in their respective areas throughout Accomack County. In this sense, Zion is truly at the center of Accomack County and for Accomack, striving to serve in the various communities of the county, not just where our church is located.

Here are some of the things our community groups have done in recent years:

  • Twice a year we meet in homes one evening a week, over a six week period, for small group Bible studies that include a video teaching and lots of discussion. These studies have been the place where meaningful relationships have been forged.
  • The Blessing Box in Parksley where people can place non-perishable food items and people can take them that need them.
  • Food baskets for underprivileged families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Adopting Metompkin Elementary School by supporting the staff and families at various school functions.
  • Volunteering at the Food Bank
  • Back Yard Kids clubs in the summer throughout the county.

If you are looking of a way to connect with people near where you live or desire to serve in your neighborhood, we likely have a Community Group that is active in your area.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY UNION

The WMU meets on the third Wednesday of the Month to stay updated on what God is doing in the rest of our state, our country and around the world through the IMB and the NAMB. The women in this group have a passion for mission and strive to promote various mission efforts within the church body at Zion.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

At Zion we believe children are important to God and therefore they are important to us. All children ministry volunteers has passed a background check and taken our Child Protection Class. We offer Sunday School classes for children of all ages on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am -10:40 am. During the worship service we offer Zion Kids Church, a program for children K through 5th grade.

In the summer we offer a combination of Vacation Bible School at the church and or back yard kids clubs throughout the county.

ADULT DISCIPLESHIP
At Zion, we strive to help every adult embrace scriptural truth in a safe, non-threatening environment so they can grow in Christ. The formal opportunities for adult discipleship happen during Sunday School and mid-week Bible studies. In Sunday School we have three Adult Classes as well as the occasional elective class. Mid-week Bible studies are a combination of Central Teaching at the church usually led by Pastor Andrew and Community Group based home Bible studies.

In addition to these weekly events we also plan special courses or events that help the Christian grow in a specific area. ZBC offers the financial management, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. ZBC also offers a marriage course once a year for anyone wanting solid teaching and mentoring for their marriage, whether they have been married for 50 years or just married last month.

The best discipleship at ZBC is what happens outside of the more formal settings, when people are simply living life together. Mentorship is encouraged at ZBC so when we go to the beach or go fishing or share a meal together it is usually done to strengthen a relationship and reinforce what we are learning on in the more formal settings.

MEN’S BREAKFAST

On the first Sunday of the month (Oct.-May) at 8 am the men of ZBC cook breakfast and for men from all over the Eastern Shore; the only regular men’s breakfast on the Eastern Shore. Each month features a different speaker who is usually one of the pastor’s here on the Shore. Both the food and the fellowship are without comparison.
